"In
the Moment" 1984
I couldn’t afford sheet film and 4x5
film holders for my Graflex (an old press camera from the
1940’s) so I fashioned a Polaroid back for the Graflex
by buying a plastic Polaroid camera at a flea market, sawing
it in half, and then, affixing the back half of the Polaroid
to the back of my Graflex. Then, I was able to us Polaroid
“positive/negative film.” This film is unique
because you can see the image right away (from a positive
image) and get a negative from which you can print. Getting
a positive image was important because I couldn’t
focus through the ground glass back like normal. I had to
use a side mount rangefinder, which was too small to see
through clearly. -srj
